to learn more about the logistics of building the water system |
| MOCHE is delighted to announce that the construction of the water delivery system has been completed and that water arrived at Ciudad de Dios on Sept. 4, 2008! |
| The flow rate at the school in Ciudad de Dios was promptly measured and the system is delivering sufficient water for the entire community. |
| Goals of the System: |
The flow rate specifications as calculated by EWB were for an average flow of 0.4 liters per second with a peak of 1.2 liters per second. The system was designed to delivery up to 30,000 liters per day. This would provide 60 liters of water per person per day for 500 people and would allow for growth in the community from the current 300 to 500 people.
| How did we do? |
As of September, the water was flowing at 0.6 liters per second. An average of 0.6 liters per second will deliver 34,560 liters of water per day, enough for 576 people or about 115 families. The flow into the spring box is 3.3 liters per second, which is a huge quantity of water, enough for approximately 5,000 people.
| We have succeeded in designing and building a system that will meet the needs of the people of Cuidad de Dios for many years to come! |
