Composting Initiative and Community Beautification |
We will work with community members to begin contruction of composting sites throughout the community in order to provide families with the materials and education necessary to compost animal waste properly. The composting initiative will continue into the summer programs when we will hold educational meetings instructing community members on proper composting techniques and explaining the health hazards associated with improper animal fertilizer use.
We will also work with local community children to build a garden in the town square of Ciudad de Dios. In recent years they have aquired access to running water through another MOCHE project and since then they have constructed a very nice plaza de armas. We will work with local children to plant drought resistant plants and add a touch of green to the town.

Ciudad de Dios Education Project |
|
We will run a seriese of classes with local families about the history and cultural heritage of Peru. We aim to take them on a trip to one of the largest archaeological sites in Peru, Huaca de La Luna and Huaca del Sol at the end of the week.
In addition we will begin intensive health education seminars that will be continued and expanded this summer. |
|
|
|
| |
Bello Horizonte Archaeological Reserve |
We will conduct archaeological surveys of several of the 10 sites in the reserve, including definition of boundaries, GPS mapping, description of architecture and layout of sites, photography, and in-field artifact analysis. We will also create a post-field report on all sites. We will meet with community members in Bello Horizonte to help deliniate the boundaries of the archaeological preserve and we will mark these boundaries with hand held GPS.
This will require rough hiking over rocky terrain and there is a danger from slips and falls. Good physical condition is required as some hikes will ascend 700 meters (2300 feet) |
